MY PERSONAL AND PROFESSIONAL JOURNEY
As a teenager, I developed a deep interest in science and exercise. Looking back, I can see that a large part of this passion was driven by struggles with body image.
I’ve always loved science, but my obsession with exercise and learning everything I could about it was rooted in a desire to achieve the “perfect body,” because I believed that was what I needed in order to be good enough.
At the time, my relationship with exercise was anything but healthy. What appeared to others as dedication, such as running marathons at just 16 years old, was in reality an unhealthy obsession.
My struggles with body image and over-exercising also led to a difficult relationship with food. I found myself caught in a cycle of restricting, overeating, and then trying to exercise excessively to “make up for it.”
Ironically, this obsession, combined with my genuine love of science, led me to pursue a degree in exercise physiology.
After college, I worked at a private training studio outside of Minneapolis that had Olympic Training Center–grade testing equipment.
Having access to highly precise measurements of my body fat and weight only intensified my fixation on my body and the number on the scale.
Over time, however, I began to heal my relationship with food, exercise, and my body. I came to understand how many of the messages promoted by the dieting and fitness industries can shape the way we think about food, movement, and our own worth.
Most importantly, I fully embodied the truth that my worth is not defined by what my body looks like.
After my time at the private training studio, I went on to work for a large fitness corporation (Lifetime Fitness/Athletic).
Then, after giving birth to my daughter (and gaining 70 pounds during pregnancy, which gave me a whole new appreciation for how much the body can change), I opened my own fitness studio in upstate New York.
There, I helped women improve not only their eating and exercise habits, but also their relationships with food, movement, and their bodies.
When COVID hit, I closed the studio and moved my business online.
Today, through Ashley Schoborg Coaching, I help women stop starting over with food and fitness and build a way of living that works with their body…not against it.
My approach combines science, psychology, and body wisdom to help women create lasting peace with food, exercise, and their body.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read my story and for being here :)
